Make College Easier to Pay For with a Tuition Payment Plan

Georgia Southern University has partnered with NelNet Business Solutions to let you pay tuition and fees over time, making college more affordable. The payment plan will cover the cost of tuition, student fees, meal plans and on-campus housing for each semester.

This is not a loan program. You have no debt, there are no interest or finance charges, and there is no credit check. Enrollment in the plan is easy and available online only. All you need to know is the amount you would like to finance and the bank information for your payment set up.*The maximum amount you may budget is $5500, any amount over this will be added to your down payment. If you make changes to your GSU invoice after Nelnet sign up, we will attempt to electronically update Nelnet with your balance information. If the change exceeds their plan limit or can not be updated, you will owe the additional amount directly to GSU. After enrollment if tuition, financial aid, housing or meal changes increase the GSU invoice amount, you may have a balance due to GSU directly as well.

Please ensure all charges and expected financial aid appear
on the account prior to enrolling in the Nelnet payment plan.

Payment Methods

  • Automatic Bank Payment
  • Credit card/Debit card (MasterCard, Discover & American Express)
    • If you elect to use this payment method, your monthly payment, along with a convenience fee, will be automatically charged to the credit card you designate. The convenience fee is in addition to the enrollment fee.

Cost to Participate

  • $60 or $70 enrollment fee per semester, depending on the number of payments (ACH & credit card)
  • $30 returned payment fee if a payment is returned

Prior to Enrollment

  • Note that this is an automated payment plan, so payments will automatically be withdrawn from your bank account or credit card account on the 5th day of each month for the life of your plan.
  • Be aware that each payment plan is for one semester only; you must sign up for a new payment plan for each semester.
  • Use the Payment Plan Calculation Worksheet as a guide to determine your college expenses* (total of your tuition, fees, on campus housing and meals) and credits (any anticipated financial aid). The balance is the amount due to Georgia Southern University.
  • If you have additional questions concerning signing up for a payment plan, contact the Bursar’s Office at 912-478-0999.
  • Plan changes as of Fall 2014:
    • Plan name change from the Prefund Program to the Guarantee Program
    • Enrollment fee change from $50.00 to either $60.00 or $70.00 depending on the number of installment payments chosen
    • Down payment required before the guarantee date will decrease from 60% to 50%
    • Plan limit of $5,500 (any amount over this will be added to the down payment)
    • Any refunds due to the student, not guaranteed, will be the responsibility of the institution (subject to receipt of funds)

How to Sign Up

Only registered students may sign up through their WINGS account for the payment plan.  Participation is voluntary, to sign up you must:

  • Visit https://my.georgiasouthern.edu/ and login (student only not available in parent portal)
  • Visit WINGS
  • Select Student
  • Select Nelnet Payment Plan
  • Select Term

*You may refer to your student account invoice in WINGS, if you have received one for the semester, or refer to the Bursar’s Office website for tuition and fee information.

Notes: Nelnet is not affiliated with Georgia Southern and does not act as the University’s agent. Accordingly, the University bears no responsibility for the acts or omissions of this business partner. Moreover, a student’s liability for University charges is not discharged until payment is made in full.

Nelnet is simply a collection agent and they do not have access to your account information at the University. We will upload periodic change files to reflect changes on your student account. Therefore, the remaining balance of your payment plan with Nelnet could be automatically adjusted if financial aid is received by the University, a class is dropped or added, or you withdraw from the University.If your changes exceeds the maximum plan value, you will owe the difference directly to the University. You will be notified by email from Nelnet if there is an adjustment and can contact them directly to make changes. Your Nelnet prefund payment will not reflected on your University invoice until full payment plan value is received from Nelnet.

The Nelnet Payment Plan option can ONLY be used for upcoming terms. There are no payment plans for past-due balances.
